Can I Get Invisalign From My Dentist? Do I Need To See An Orthodontist?

If you want to straighten your smile or correct minor bite alignment issues like an overbite or an underbite in Jackson, Hartford, or Germantown, Invisalign may be a good option for you. But do you need to see an orthodontist to get it? Or can you simply get Invisalign from a dentist like Dr. Ben Heffter or Dr. Pako Major? Find out now!

You Can Get Invisalign From A General Dentist

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment, but it can be provided by a general dentist. This is because it’s not intended to treat extensive or severe orthodontic issues, so any dentist can learn to treat patients and correct their smiles with Invisalign. Your dentist doesn’t need to be an orthodontic specialist to provide this treatment.

That’s why we offer Invisalign at Jackson Family Dentistry. If you have minor to moderate teeth and jaw alignment issues, you can get treatment from our office without having to be referred to an orthodontist. This makes Invisalign treatment quick and easy.

What To Expect From The Invisalign Process

Not sure how the Invisalign process works? To begin, Dr. Major or Dr. Heffter will examine your mouth and take x-rays to determine if this treatment is the right option for your orthodontic needs. Then, if you’re approved, they will work with Invisalign to develop a custom treatment plan.

In a few weeks, your first several sets of aligners will arrive at our office, and you’ll come in to pick them up and get instructions on how to wear them. You will wear each set for about 20-22 hours per day, and switch to a new set every 2 weeks.

In addition, you’ll come to our office every 4-6 weeks for a brief checkup, and to get your next few sets of aligners. This process will be repeated until your teeth have reached their ideal alignment.

Invisalign May Not Be Right For You, In Some Cases

Invisalign is a versatile method of smile correction, but it’s not intended to treat major bite problems or serious issues with teeth alignment. For this, braces and additional surgical treatments may be necessary, and these treatments should be delivered by a qualified orthodontist in Jackson.

To find out if you are a good candidate for Invisalign, or if you may need a referral to an orthodontist, you can simply schedule an orthodontic consultation at Jackson Family Dentistry. Dr. Heffter or Dr. Major can assess your smile and your bite, and determine if you can be treated with Invisalign, or if you may need braces.
